Argireline
is one of the most popular anti-aging
ingredients on the market. It targets eye
wrinkles (typically what we associate with
crow's feet (laughing lines) and the
forehead. It reduces the depth of the
expression wrinkles in these areas.
One of the first places that aging is
noticed is around the eyes. A very popular
treatment for getting rid of crow's feet has
been the injections of Botulinum Toxin
(commercially known as Botox) into the
muscle that is contracting - thus causing
wrinkles to form. This has a very
interesting story was that the toxin was
originally used to help those with twitching
eyes or crossed eyes. In their experiments,
they noticed that a "side effect" was that
wrinkles were diminishing in the patients.
Many years later, the FDA approved Botox -
where the toxin is injected directly into
the muscles that initiate wrinkles.
Argireline achieves a similar process in a
different way. Argireline is a topical
peptide that acts to interrupt the protein
complex (that releases neurotransmitters)
that tell the muscles to contract. If the
muscles don't contract, the eye wrinkles do
not form.
Argireline is used in many cosmetic wrinkle
creams and serums by many different
manufacturers. It is meant to be used in
target areas - around the eyes, forehead,
mouth. Many people used it on their entire
face and neck.
